Heredia City, one of the largest towns in Costa Rica, has an attractive Colonial charm. Real estate prices are among the best buys in Costa Rica. Recent growth in Heredia has caused prices to rise, but property here is still affordable and among the best buys in Costa Rica. There is a tremendous variety of homes and properties to choose from in all price ranges.
You'll find any amenity that you can find in San José, plus you avoid the the congestion and noise. Life here moves at a much slower pace, but you will still find many enjoyable places to pass the time. The National University is the 2nd largest in Costa Rica and many international restaurants locate in Heredia to serve the professors and students of the UNA. A modern mall, Paseo de Las Flores, features a wide variety of local and international shops, and several department stores. Major medical facilities, dental clinics, banks, a farmer's market, restaurants, casinos and night clubs round out the attractions.
However, you are still only 10km to San Jose. The Pacific beaches are a short day trip from Heredia. Jacó, one of the more popular coastal destinations is a 70 mile (113 km) journey and Puntarenas is even closer, just 64 miles (103 km) from Heredia.
The Heredia Province has the largest number of the best private bi-lingual schools in Costa Rica including the European School, Lincoln School, Pan American, International Christian, Santa Cecilia and American International.
Heredia has a nice variety of climates to suit any taste. If you want to beat the heat, the areas of El Tirol, El Castillo, San Rafael, San Jose de la Montaña, San Isidro and El Roble are perfect for you with average temperatures in the low 70’s. At night, you might want to put on a sweater or light the fireplace.
Some like it hot though, if that's you then the areas of Santa Barbara, Barva, San Joaquin de Flores, San Pablo, Santo Domingo, Cariari and Belen offer temperatures that are generally 8-10 degrees warmer.

National and Private Parks In these parks and wildlife refuges you can enjoy nature trails and see birds, wild animals and exuberant foilage. Volcan Barva National Park, Braulio Carillo National Park, La Selva Biological Station, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Cerro Dantas Wildlife Refuge.
Culture Because of the UNA university, there are always a wide variety of cultural events, expos and meetings happening. In addition, Heredia hosts the Museum of Popular Culture and INBIO (National Biodiversity Institute)
The High Life Shopping, country clubs, exclusive shops are all easy to find in Heredia. The Real Cariari Mall and Paseo de las Flores are major shopping centers with a variety of local and international boutiques. The Cariari Country Club and El Castillo Country Club offer members the opportunity to enjoy numerous activities and sports on their premises, including swimming, tennis, golf and even ice skating!
